My first MBTs; these mary janes work for me and I have chubby feet. I do not find the straps too short and the heel does not slip up and down. I went with my regular shoe size even though I understand most people go a size up. They feel a little tight when standing, but when walking they are like extensions of my feet and feel great. I bought them in Seattle, walked (rolled) out of the store with them on and walked around the city the rest of the day. They did not take any "getting used to." (I had been wearing more fashionable, but still practical shoes and my feet were aching.) A few days later I walked 3.5 miles uphill and downhill in them with no problems. Usually, my hip bothers me for the last mile or so, but not with these shoes on! And the walk went faster than usual and was much more fun. I got them in denim and they look great with dark jeans. I am so impressed with them that I am considering taking them on an adventure tour in Costa Rica for hiking. They seem to perform fine on rocks and uneven terrain.

I have suffered from ball of foot pain for for over 2 years. I have been to the podiatrist and to an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in feet. I have had various physical therapies. Ortho pads have helped especially the "dancer pad" from Hapad, but despite my efforts, walking was something to be avoided, and so many things I once enjoyed doing were now out of the question. I bought these shoes, my first MBT's, about 2 months ago. I wear them with my "dancer pad." I can walk anywhere. I can go on vacation, and walk for hours. I am so thrilled, it is hard to describe. What a pity I did not try these a long time ago! If you have a foot problem, these are sure worth a try. They are not the prettiest shoes, but when I regained the ability to walk in comfort, pretty was not even a factor. Now that I can walk in comfort, I think they are beautiful! I have now also purchased an MBT sandal. I'm back!

It can be stressful and hard to find the right swimwear, since it bares all and you want to look your best. There's a variety of swimwear to choose from, each accentuates and hides different areas. Some varieties include bikinis, tankinis, bandinis, camikini, maillots, and boy legs.

Bikinis were a forbidden boom back in the day, and now they are universally sexy. Sexy side-tie, triangle-pieced bikinis tend to leave little to the imagination. But you can encourage the imagination by adding a few extra curves by going for a top with a built-in push-up bra, or an under wire. If none of those options seem appealing, perhaps you want to leave more to the imagination, you may want to opt for a maillot, which is a basic one-piece suit. Some have come to refer to a cut-out style the "monokini".

To take leaving things to the imagination a step further, you can wear boy legs, which are a long leg resembling really short shorts. Be careful, though, sometimes boy legs make the leg look shorter.

Beyond the basic design of the swim wear you need to choose, you should also consider the color and accessories. Some swimming suits have zippers, some have strings, some have metal hoops, some are blue, some are designed. Choose the design you prefer for you body and then consider color and design.

There are other types of swimwear necessary for the water. Other than just basic body parts, you can also cover your head, ears, and eyes.

Swim caps, placed over the head and ears and reduce water resistance when trying to swim. This is especially handy for competition. Goggles, placed over the eyes protect the delicate balance of the eye from chlorine and other chemicals in pool water, and salt and pollution in natural water, which helps swimmers to see well under the water.

You should assess your body and body type, and your level of confidence in your body and choose your swimwear accordingly. You don't want to pick out a swimming suit that is considered cool because it's cool and end up feeling self-conscious every time you wear it. I've been wearing these shoes for 2 1/2 years. I bought them because I hoped it would help me with my daily back pain (I was taking antiinflamatories on a daily basis). Let me also tell you that I'm active. I'm used to aerobic exercise, and I'm fit. Running is my passion and I didn't want to give it up. It was like this, I would wake up pain free, would run on the treadmil and stretch, run some errands and there she was the back pain. Then she'll visit with me till the end of the day. Of course it kept getting worse, till the point I would get out of bed pain free and after walking around the house a little bit there she was the back pain waiting on me to keep me company for the rest of the day. I was researching on the internet when I bumped into these shoes. Actually I was looking for some Birkenstocks when I found MBTs. I was so desperate to come up with a solution for my back pain that I made my husband drive me to Texas, about 70 miles far from where I live, to Frisco so that I could get them that very same day. I didn't want having to wait for the MTBs being shipped and stuff. They advise you to get started little by little and there is a DVD and a pamphlet that cames along with instructions. Anyway, I put MBTs on and got out of the store, did grocery shopping and the relief was so big I wore the shoes for the rest of the day. Next day I put them on when I woke up (literally) and ever since I've wore it for 2 years straight. Sandals in the summer and sneakers in the winter. I like the sandals best. No more pain, no more pills. Although I am fit, my legs got a little bit tired during the first week or so because you start using muscles that might have never been requested before. In the past 6 months I haven't been wearing them as often, I just walk on them when I exercise on the treadmil (running on them is pretty tough, it's like running on very soft sand) and I also make sure I have them on when cleanning the house and traveling. These sandals are just perfect for traveling. I'm brazilian married to an american, so I visit my country often and a 10 hour flight can get your feet pretty swollen. Studies show that you still maintain your good posture for 2 or 3 days when not wearing the MBTs. Bottom line, they took my back pain away for good. I was told they might loose their cushioning after a year but no. Good quality shoes, I'm still wearing the first pair of sandals and sneakers I bought. As far as muscular improvement I havent' noticed much since I was already fit when I started wearing them. I've seen websites that would advertise the fact that these shoes improve your celulite and things like that. MBT Company is very serious and doesn't mention anything like that. Do you own a lot of shoes? Well, I certainly have a lot of them. In fact, I have more than enough shoes than I need, and my husband often reminds me of this every day. I thought that it will work, because all the shoes were confined to the closet. However, I failed to realize was that the pair of shoes I left by the door had other plans. My husband said that he will commit me to the local mental institution if I blame it on the shoes one more time.

I soon learned to live with my messy shoe habits. Of course, I know that the shoes arent really conspiring against me, and I know Im the one responsible for leaving them lying around. But, Im not going to admit it to him because I can do what I please until he cleans up his act. The shoe rack in the closet still holds two pairs of shoes, but they are shoes I never wear. I recently moved to Seoul, South Korea and my in-laws bought these shoes for me. It takes me about 1 hour and ten minutes of subway and street walking. Usually when I get tired my posture goes and my knees start to hurt. These shoes have helped to straighten my posture and TOTALLY get rid of mild knee pain. These shoes also make climbing steps easier. These really make me walk from heel to toe and they really feel good (after I learned who talk walk in them). I experienced a "workout" the first month or two wearing them but the feeling the shoes provide make me prefer them to my normal shoes sometimes. Movement in my feet and knees just feels really smooth. One reservation though. In my opinion these shoes are made for city walking. I would not recommend them for trail walking. You won't actually wobble but you might feel not as stable as walking on a trail shoe. Highly recommended for walking ~ probably the best shoes made for walking

Opium harvests have been on the rise in the war-torn, near-lawless country since conflicts began with the United States, and despite strong eradication efforts by American and British forces, there's no end in site. In fact, the country is currently producing ninety-three percent of the world's supply. Yet, 6.2 million individuals are dying of cancer, AIDS, burns and wounds without adequate pain relief, according to the World Health Organization.

Connecting the two causes seems logical enough: on one side, poor peasant farmers are selling their wares to illegal organizations in order to make ends meet, and on the other, legitimate organizations that could use those farmers' products to provide humanitarian pain relief to those who would otherwise not be able to afford it need them. This hits home in the middle of a domestic healthcare crisis; more than fifty million Americans are currently going without health insurance and, according to the Commonwealth Fund, have less access to healthcare because of it.

Texas, a state with ready access to such illegal drugs as Mexican Black Tar (MBT) -- a form of heroin, originally processed from poppies before being "cut" with other, less pure ingredients -- and twenty-five percent of its population living without health insurance, may be more connected to the international poppy crop situation than it thinks. How many in the state are living with inadequate pain relief as a result of limited access to healthcare, yet could easily find heroin?

The Dallas/Fort Worth area is now considered "a major distribution point" for MBT shipments bound for far-flung locations around the country, according to the Drug Enforcement Agency, and the DEA's Houston Field Division is the "primary transshipment area for bulk importation of most major categories of drugs." Smaller cities, like Austin, are not exempt from the drug trade just across the border, either.

The Senlis Council, a drug-policy research organization with offices in London, Brussels, and Kabul, argues that the U.S. and Britain alone waste $800 million a year -- not to mention valuable lives -- on a futile attempt to kill off crops the world could use to provide better access to pain relieving, legal medications. According to the Council, Afghanistan's entire supply could be purchased directly from the farmers for about $1 billion -- a bargain compared to the same quantity's heroin street value of $50 billion.

Many, including government organizations in charge of the attempted eradication, counter that Afghani farmers should be encouraged to grow alternative crops instead, such as wheat, cotton, and fruit. The price just may not be right, however. It's difficult, if not impossible in some regions, for a family to survive on such crops.

Romesh Bhattacharji, former narcotics commissioner of India, also believes that buying Afghanistan's infamous supply of what seems, at first glance, to be innocuous flowers may be the answer. "Enforcement will not work," he said after conducting an investigation for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. "The Afghan farmer will not switch to alternative crops as long as there is a market for his opium." The problem is that if the medical community doesn't buy it, the smugglers will.

Not so fast, says Thomas A. Schweich, chief of the State Department's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement. Schweich believes the problem is much more complicated than simple supply and demand. Smugglers pay more than governments ever would, he says, and Afghanistan grows more than what the U.S. could handle, along with keeping up with suppliers already under contract. The trade would also be far more difficult to control than, for instance, India and Turkey's crops, which came under contract with the U.S. after similar efforts to eradicate the supply proved unsuccessful a few decades ago.

Additionally, the U.S would have to provide price supports in order to match what illegal drug traders are willing to pay -- amounting to more than $800 million. The Indian government offered its farmers the equivalent of twenty to fifty US dollars per kilo of legally grown poppy in 2006. Smugglers were willing to pay $100 to $190 per kilo. Afghanistan tells a similar tale -- average prices from smugglers are around $125 a kilo.

"Why would anybody switch to legal opium when they can get those prices," asked Schweich. "You do the math. If we did it, no one in Afghanistan would grow any other crop, we'd be paying billions for it, and it would become a narco-welfare state."

And then there are loyalty issues. Albeit a bit like a girls' junior-high group fight, staying true to the contracts already in existence is a valid concern. Jagjit Pavadia, India's narcotics commissioner, believes that if the U.S. government wants more opium, it should give the business to India's poor farmers. The business relationship with the country is already well established, and the falling demand has cut legal farmers' licenses in the country from 150,000 to 62,000.

While Britain is considering the Senlis Council's plan, the U.S. is still adamantly opposed to it. "It's almost theological, their opposition to our idea," said Norine MacDonald, the Council's founder. She argues that the eradication effort takes too much funding to pursue and is pointless anyway. She also believes it attracts paramilitary contracts with companies a little too friendly with the Bush administration, such as Blackwater USA and DynCorp International, which train Afghan's anti-narcotics police force.

Schweich believes MacDonald's attitude is "cynical and inaccurate," though he admits eradication efforts are host to both nepotism and corruption.

Both are valid arguments, but without decisive action, nothing is going to be done to improve the situation -- neither the world's relatively limited access to morphine, nor the illegal drug trade's profit from it.

These shoes are AMAZING. I'm 57, 50# overweight and work at a hospital where I put in six 12 hour shifts, then have 8 days off. On hard floors I average 6-8 miles of walking a night. I have one flat foot and one with a good arch. My flat foot starts to ache about 1/2 way through the shift. So I and others in this profession have tried just about every new idea that comes down the pike. Z-coils worked well but eventually I settled in to Crocs because of their comfort & coolness- you can take them off easily and so when you sit you can slip out of them and let your feet cool off. But then several of us tried MBTs. I couldn't believe it- no pain in my feet whatsoever, even after long shifts. I found myself on my feet more and moving around. I guess some folk take a few tries at them before they get used to them but I found the day I bought them I could float around in them without any mishap. They do feel different- all your weight seems to be centered in the middle of your foot- kind of a rocker feeling which forces you to keep your balance. Not a shoe to run in but for standing & walking they seem to be the best shoe out there. Until something better comes along I'll be wearing these while I work and at home whenever I'm on my feet for a long time. I bought my MBT's 7 months ago and the bottom rubber around the toe is lifting. I contacted MBT and they informed me that since they are over 6 months old (exactly by 3 weeks) I needed to contact Resole America who can possibly repair the shoes. Mind you, I paid $244 dollars for these walking shoes. Resole America ask that I send a picture which I gladly did. Well, I was told these "walking shoes" should not be worn in water or dirt and that my shoes could not be repaired by them. Come on, you spend $244 on a pair of "walking shoes" only to find out when you have a problem that there is an underlying stipulation that you basically can't wear these shoes outdoors? I'm disappointed that I'm having trouble with MBT to stand behind these very expensive tennis/walking shoes. Buyer, beware!

I waited for years to afford these shoes and FINALLY got them for my birthday and was oh so excited to finally get my MBT shoes! Well in all honesty, I love the sole design and how the spine is instantly put into alignment...that part is great. The things I do NOT like: The toe box is narrow and my toes feel like they are too tight in there although the shoes are plenty long enough. The uppers are thick, stiff leather which should wear for years but does NOT break in to allow them to conform to feet enough to be comfortable. They are extremely HOT which may be ok for cold winter months but that's only a few months of the year. I actually got mine in February and they were too hot by April and I live on the North-West coast of United States where our summers are in the 60's! The inside/liner is flat with NO arch support and very hard. They are really NOT comfortable to me. I am completely into fitness and anything that is good for the body so the idea of MBT was very appealing to me. These shoes could be SO much better if the upper was designed more comfortably. It would also be a plus if they actually LOOKED GOOD as well! I would have to say that the narrow toe box is probably the worst part for me as I am used to my toes being able to spread out enough so as not to feel claustrophobic in a pair of shoes.

Purchased these shoes to wear to work as a nurse, due to severe arch pain. tried numerous other brands including z-coils.... they all helped with the heal pain but not the arch. due to the forward action and the reinforced arch my feet re happy. I work in the E.R. and the shoes have held up to several washing and the high traffic. I have not run in them yet so i don't know what it feels like to exercise in them. For new wearers a caution with backwards motion balance will be a little off easy to get use to in a week.

I was shocked how easy it was to adjust to these. Im not big on the chunky style but it is like walking on a cloud! I teach preschool and was wearing nike shox. MBT's are much better!! I can wear them on a treadmill or elliptical but don't think I will be doing a kickboxing class in them. Great for walkers or someone that is on their feet alot at work! Im excited to try them out at my bar tending job, I go home after a 8 hour shift, I hope to have the same positive results. My advice is wear them at home for a day first. If you have any foot aches try them out!

Ok the MBT shoe is freaky looking. I admit it. But *wow* what an amazing shoe! I have 3 problems when I walk: 1)shin splints 2)lower back 3)super klutz I fall, trip etc. I have had my MBT shoes for a month now. I walk about 3 miles 3 times a week with the MBT shoes. With the MBT shoes I no longer have had problems with my shin splints. When I walk, my lower back hasn't hurt, and although there is no heel I haven't fallen once - yet. At first it was weird to have that rocking sensation but I don't even notice it anymore. I have definitely noticed that my calf muscles and leg muscles have been worked I can feel it! so don't wear them a lot in the beginning esp if you are out of shape or haven't used those muscles. The MBT's are super comfortable. They are super cushy and feel great. I really love mine. However there are a few things to consider when you buy them - you need to buy a larger size. I normally wear a 36/37 and I bought a 37 2/3. Also they are very expensive so they are an investment. But I do think they are worth it. I haven't met anyone else who owns them so I don't know what other people think but I am really happy to have bought them.
